Short answer
Gökkaya Hafriyat digs trenches for electrical cables and protective conduit in Famagusta (Gazimağusa) and İskele, North Cyprus. Electrical trenching means opening the cable route and closing the trench after the line has been laid.
What are the stages of electrical trenching?
- The route is set and existing underground lines are checked.
- The trench is opened to the dimensions in the project or required by the utility.
- An authorised crew lays the cable or conduit.
- The trench is backfilled and compacted to the project requirements.
Who should you ask before digging?
In North Cyprus, the electricity network is the responsibility of KIB-TEK (the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority). Ask KIB-TEK or your licensed electrician about connection and line requirements first. Cable connection and energising are separate from the excavation work.
Can a cable pass without cutting a road or concrete?
Sometimes. If the line crosses under a road, footpath or landscaped garden, mole boring may be an option. Suitability depends on the distance, the ground and nearby lines.

Frequently asked questions
- How deep should an electrical trench be?
- Depth depends on the type of line and on the utility or project requirements. Check the current requirements with your licensed electrician or KIB-TEK before digging.
- What if I don’t know where existing underground cables are?
- Before digging, ask the relevant utilities and check any old drawings. Unknown lines are a risk to both people and infrastructure.
- Is the trench closed afterwards?
- Backfilling can be planned as part of the job. If the surface needs repairing in concrete or asphalt, mention it at the quote stage.
